The goal was to set up the studio for future use with Jazzler as intended play-out software. The setup also had to facilitate using Axiz as play-out system until the station was ready to switch over to Jazzler.
The installation involved integrating existing
and new equipment with a vintage Soundcraft SAC 2000 mixing desk to create the
new on-air studio.
This mixer was acquired by the station from the
SABC. It is the first broadcast mixing desk produced by Soundcraft and is more
than 25 years old. Nevertheless, it is a remarkable piece of equipment built to
a very high standard and brimming with features.
The installation process included servicing and cleaning the mixer, installing a RAG-light system, mounting existing and new equipment in an On-Air equipment rack and integrating these with the mixing desk, integrating the On-Air studio with the equipment rack in the News Room and installing feeds between On-Air and Final Control.
